Here is another poster design for my local watering hole, The Imperial. This idea has little to do with the theme of the previous 'New Lungs' music poster, I just liked the concept. It was really just one of those ideas that came to me, and had to get down on to paper. I'm still not sure about it, however, I really like the lino printed elements of the image.

I recently decided to design a short artists book based on a journey I took through Manchester. Here are two ideas of how intend to portray my journey.

Frankie lol

This is a drawing, which was originally going to be used for something. No idea what though. I took a load of photographs a few weeks back and decided to do something with them. As a result I produce this. The photo was of my friend, fellow band mate and living legend Mr Frankie Yates. I drew it from my computer screen originally and then scanned the drawing in and combined it with some cheeky tracing in photoshop.

Here is pretty much the final piece for the music poster designs I posted earlier. I decided to draw out the lungs instead of using the lino print texture I employed previously. I think this works a lot better, as the black on the other images was slightly over powering. I also decided use some line drawings of a heart combined with a print texture and repeated down the side of the image. I think this works well in contrast to the background and the lungs.

Here are another piece two pieces based on the irrational fears theme. I'm feeling I can take how scary the images look to another level. At the moment I don't think they particularly capture how menacing certain fears can look and feel to the individual. Watch this space though. However, with that said, I do like some of the compositional elements in these pieces. For example, the textures and some of the drawing techniques. Especially the scribble effect on the crow.

This is a new project I've been working on recently. It's based on the idea of irrational fears, and how for the most part what we fear is brought on by our own imagination. I also want to touch on how films and other media play a big part in what we think and feel. The scenes we play out in our minds can be heavily influenced by the images we see on television, and in newspapers and magazines. Something that I find very interesting, and aim to produce further illustrations for. This particular Illustration is a good start, however, I think the arm and hand need to be much scarier.

This is a continuation of the work I was producing earlier this year on the subject of how the older generation perceive todays youth. Im not sure about the text in this piece, however, I think the imagery, textures and colours work well together. I aim to perhaps produce one more piece for this particular subject, and print them as a series of Illustrations for my updated portfolio.

More new lungs

I've been working into these music posters recently, adding photographs and line drawing. I think they're coming along nicely. The only thing that needs working on in my opinion at the moment is the type. I could perhaps play around with some different fonts.

New Lungs

New lungs is a music promo night the one of my friends from Chorley is running. He asked me to produce some of the artwork for the posters. Here is an example of one of the illustrations I've been working on. I quite like the use of lino print and photography combined in this image. Still work in progress however.

repost argh!

Paris postcards

A bit of reminiscing inspired me to create these postcards. Based on my experiences on a trip to Paris I took with college a few years ago. I tried to capture the both the traditional aspects of the city as well as the more modern cultural parts. I like both of these images, however, Im not sure about the use of geometric shapes in the first illustration. Perhaps overpowering the image slightly. Work in progress however. I may create more soon.

Rework

I decided to work back into one of my older pieces. Im really pleased with this one now. The figure looks a lot more dynamic with the pencil strokes. It also seems to be communicating the idea of freedom a lot better now. Feed back please.

Time to start posting

Hey folks, been doing quite a bit of work recently, thought it was time to share some of the stuff I've been doing. I'll start with a repost seeing as the link on the last one to enlarge the illustration didn't work for some strange reason. The other work on display is for a new project Im working on for a skate company called etnies. I recently bought myself some new trainers and decided redesign the graphics on the outside of the shoe box. The idea is roughly based on journeys, and on a fictional way the shoes might have travelled to get to you after ordering them. I quite like some of the images here. Although perhaps the concept could realised a bit more in some of the images.

NEW BLOG

Right, here goes. I've been producing work recently in order to build on my current portfolio. I think one of the main things you realise once you have finished uni is keeping your motivation and interest in illustration alive. I've being trying to do this by immersing myself in all types of illustration, music, art work, books , films etc. Some of which I will probably share soon. I have also being trying to fuel my inspiration by writing briefs that will not only inspire me to produce interesting pieces of artwork, but also have of some kind of personal meaning. Therefor the the work shouldn't seem as forced, as it stems from my interests and love of illustration. Anyway that's enough rambling for now. These two images below are part of an on going project about how how the older generation perceive the youth of today. The general theme being that many of the older generation consider the youth of today intimidating, rude and obnoxious. Which usually isn't the case. This idea has been exaggerated by placing the intimidating character in a variety of situations were he's doing good in the community.
